She worked at the AIDS Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, on gene therapy for HIV. Since then, she has been working for various companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, developing immunotherapy for cancer and gene therapy for neurological disorders.

"In 2020, I was diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer and went through surgery and chemotherapy. Many of my friends helped me my cancer journey. I hope that my experience will help Japanese people in the U.S. who are suffering from various illnesses, including cancer, and I hope that I can pay it forward with the supports I receive from my friends."
